Take the other ear ring and see if the detector will locate it in air. Just set the detector up on a table away from any metal. Turn the discrimination all the way down. Wave the ear ring in front of the coil and see if the detector picks it up. if it does then see how far away from the coil it will see the ear ring. Now turn the discrimination up until the ear ring goes away. Then set the detector to the point that it accepts the ear ring.
Next...go out in the yard and lay the other ear ring on the ground. See if the detector still picks it up. if it does not...set the discrimination again until it does pick it up. Now search the area where she lost the earing and locate every target that beeps until you find that ear
ring.
If that detector won't pick up the earing at all...get back with us here. We will have some more suggestions.
