You can do a search for them in the area.
Last trip we stayed at The George hotel. It is smack in the middle of High St in Colchester so there is much to do. The hotel was so-so but it is a 500 year old building
Creaky floors, thin walls etc... Think it was £80 for the night/room. There are other places, but none in such an ideal spot. It was fun doing it that way. We came into LHR, hopped on the tube to the train station, then took a regular train right to Colchester. Besides a few flights of stairs that we had to hike with luggage at the stations, it went perfectly and was cheap, maybe £20 for the trip.
I know my way around a little bit over there
so ask away
Also, if you do it this way, be sure to arrange for Gerry to pick you up in Colchester. The taxi's will kill ya
