Metal Detecting Online

I know I am going to offend at least two guys with these comments. Both are welcome to come on here and defend their position.
I am having a serious problem supporting the new mini or smaller pay hunts. Let me tell you a story. When I was first metal detecting we had absolutely no problem getting on private property. We rarely asked permission because it was never needed. Every property owner just let folks detect or hunt as they wished. They might run off a bunch that trashed the land but beyond that permission was assumed and granted until denied.
In the late seventies the attitudes changed rapidly. no longer was permission assumed but it still was just the point of asking and permission was almost always given. That brings us to today when permission to detect is absolutely required and is refused in many places.
I have no problem with the large hunts on large acreage. But I see these small hunts now being offered on small properties and I can quickly see where this is headed.
If we are going to start leasing these smaller properties for pay hunts it is going to quickly get around to land owners that money can be made leasing to relic hunters. Once that happens it is over for this hobby my friend unless you are willing to part with big bucks on the chance of finding a relic.
Hunt promoters...think about what you are doing. I realize these small hunts are easier to put on and the money is quick and easy... But please also consider that you might be killing the goose that laid the golden egg... If landowners start asking relic hunters to pay money to get to hunt their land....the average hunter like me is out of this hobby. There goes the hobby and your customers.
I start this conversation to get comments and to make us all think. I do not mind an opposing view at all. Let me know what you think.
