If I were making the choice i would go for the IIb. Sometimes in very iron trashed house sites it helps to lower both the transmit power and the disc sensitivity. With the IIBa you can't lower the disc sens because it is preset at 9. Also sometimes I like to run the IIb like a conventional detector by turning off the GB sensitivity and threshold and switching the headphones to mono. You then hear only the high pitch good target beep in both ears. I'm not sure you can do this with the IIBa since the GB sens is preset at 3. I wish Nautilus would return the sensitivity controls to the IIBa, that along with the push button loop balance would make a great detector.
