I have had two Excals in this lifetime.. The first one was the original Gary Storm model that he was building out of Sovereigns. It was by far the best of all of them. That detector finally leaked one time too many and I had to replace it about two years ago. The new one does not have the headphone volume of the first one but it does work just fine. I always recommend the 8 inch coil for one reason. You cannot get the 10 inch coil in your scoop hole if you are having to chase down the target. I have never wanted more depth than the 8 inch will give me. If I do think I need more depth I grab a pulse.
