Howdy all...

I have been hashing this over in my mind. I would like to have a Find of the Year award for this site. Several manufacturers have offered to provide detectors to help us get this site up and running. They tell me I could just sell them to help cover expenses but I am thinking of something that will better help us get moving along.
My idea of a great find is not just the item itself. It is the story that goes with it. It is very nice to own a relic but the part that really makes it interesting is that story about how you found it. How did it happen. How did it feel seeing it come out of the ground or the water? Who was with you? The story to me is the most important part about a relic. Some folks buy relics as part of a collection and that is a very valuable activity but what gets my blood flowing is the telling of the story.
What I am proposing is that we have a Find of the Year for three categories. Coins, Jewelery and Relics. The find would count for 50% and the story will count as 50%. So two people may find a fantastic ring of equal value but one person does a better job of telling the story. He would win overall. Someone may even find a lesser value item but the story could make him the winner.
I believe that is what we are all here for...the pictures and the story.
I already have one brand new top of the line metal detector ready for the first prize. There will be three awards, one from each category. Any category could be the overall winner. All categories might wind up with a detector. They all will definitely have nice prizes. I just don't have all the detectors in hand yet. So start detecting and thinking about how to write the story of your best find. The contest will start as soon as we are all in agreement. If you have any suggestions as to how to make it better please let me know. The contest will start soon and will end on December 31, 2008 midnight.
All Find of the Year stories will be submitted to the treasure magazines for publishing. Lets hash this out this week and start the ball rolling on Monday the 10th...
