Here is what I have been doing here in FL and in upstate NY. I set the GB, sens at around 70-85, JE, Disc to 65 and 3H and notch IN 28-33. Keep in mind I am only searching for silver coins, large cents, nickels and whatever gold rings fall within the notch. Up in NY I have been able to pull coins from 12 inches+ (a Barber quarter at a measured 13) and it is killer on nickels. It also likes to hunt "Hunted out Parks"
